- 4 pears (peeled)
- bottle of red wine
- 1 orange - cut in half and juice squeezed out
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 vanilla stick (or 1 Tbs. vanilla extract)
Combine all ingredients in a pot and let simmer until a toothpick goes in almost all the way through.
If you have time, allow to sit overnight to allow more of the wine to penetrate the pear.
Remove pear from liquid, pat dry and place in a bowl and cover with vanilla sauce.
Trade secret for vanilla sauce: Take a pint of very good French vanilla ice cream, allow to melt and add a splash of rum.
