Six States. 100 Years. One Film.

The Big E is much more than just fried foods and carnival rides. It’s a regional traditional, with roots stretching back over 100 years. It’s more than just Massachusetts, too — all the New England states have played a role.

This year, WGBY is producing a full-length documentary, 100 Years on the Avenue: The Story of the Big E. Producer Dave Fraser is spending his summer traveling across the New England states to hear the many different histories and perspectives relating to Eastern States Exposition.

Using archival material, interviews with historians and Big E staff, narration, and current-day footage, this documentary will chronicle the 100 years of the Eastern States Exposition and New England’s Great State Fair. The program will have regional appeal as it highlights all six New England states and shows the ways in which each of them contributes to this beloved annual event.
