Paczki (Polish Donuts)

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 small cakes of yeast
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups flour
  • ½ shot whiskey

Mix yeast, milk, 1 tablespoon of the sugar and margarine together; let cool. Beat eggs with remaining sugar, salt, and whiskey. Stir into milk mixture. Add flour a little at a time and contine to mix. Knead with remaining ½ cup flour. Let rise twice, punching dough down each time. Grease the bowl before you put the dough in and be sure to cover with waxed paper. Keep out of drafts.

Cut into circles and fry in hot oil then cool on rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

(Sometimes Paczki are filled with fruit or cream fillings after cooling.)
