The WGBY Asparagus Festival offers plenty of fun and learning opportunities for both children and adults. Below are some of the many 2017 presentations that took place in the WGBY Demo Tent. Stay tuned for 2018 demonstrations.

2017 Demo Tent Schedule

11–NoonLearn to Pickle
Melody of Revival Homestead Supply offered an asparagus pickling demonstration. Then, it was an Asparagus Pickle Tasteoff with Wally Czajkowsk, of Hadley-based Plainville Farm.

Noon–12:30 p.m.Cook with Asparagus
Jake Mazar from Wheelhouse, a Pioneer Valley farm-to-table caterer and food truck, showed us how to make an Asparagus dish.

1–1:30 p.m.Protecting Valley Farmland
Lee Halasz of Kestral Land Trust and Ryan Karb of Many Hands Farm Corps spoke about the importance of conserving farmland in our community.

2–2:30 p.m.Become Tick-Aware
Nicole Thurrell (CTRS / WEMT), director of the Institute for Wilderness and Emergency Medicine, explained the risks of tick-borne illness and explains how to lower those risks.

Make a Salad

The Whole Foods Market Hadley Store tent offered free, make-your-own sample asparagus salads.
