The artisanal breads of Altamura are known throughout Italy. Mary Ann visits one of the signature bakeries in this small city in the region of Puglia where she meets the DiGesu family - all five generations of them - and gets a whirlwind tour of their bakery and the classic breads they make, including the dome-shaped "Altamura" loaf, so named for the hilltop site of the city. Watch the breads bake in a 100 year-old wood-fired oven and dream about "smell-o-vision!"

There are cakes and there are CAKES. Paul and Anna Ciramitaro of Caffe Sicilia in Gloucester, Massachusetts, prepare an eye-popping Cassata guaranteed to satisfy the sweetest of sweet teeth. But just in case it doesn't, Mary Ann creates a pistachio pudding-filled Amarena Cake just to be sure you'll shout "basta!" (enough!).

Mary Ann visits the New York Academy of Medicine's collection of rare Italian cookbooks. She's inspired to create two traditional molded pasta dishes, featuring the same ingredients used hundreds of years ago, fit for a king's palate - and yours too.

Mary Ann sends artichokes to new heights by stuffing them with farro, chopped parsley, mint, and lots of pecorino Romano cheese. A good long bake in the oven and these tender treats are ready for the table. What could go with it? Easy answer: using freshly chopped mint and more pecorino cheese, Mary Ann whips up a Frittata with Mint in about the time it takes to read this sentence!

Mary Ann travels to Lizori, a remote town in the Umbrian hills, to cook with Chef Danielle Bottoni who learned the art of cooking from her mother and it shows! Her grain-inspired pasta and lentil dishes inspire Mary Ann to go nella cucina and continue the tradition with Chickpea and Farro Salad, plus a hearty Farro Soup.
