Two restaurants that are wine lovers paradise, both affiliated with wine shop. Racine's is linked to Chambers St Wines down the block, spot on French inspired menu and an amazing selection of wines by the glass or bottle. Wine Disciples is a store right next to a restaurant, here the cooking is American / Italian, ingredient driven and the wine list by glass and bottle is wonderful.

The Bowery, a boulevard that was once better known for the flop-houses and the down and out is now gentrified beyond recognition. Two solid new restaurants speak to this progress, Rebelle, and Cherchi Midi, just a block apart.

Located in one of the most isolated and remote corners of the city, surrounded by water, to get there you either drive or take a bus and as we all remember it was mostly underwater after Hurricane Sandy and many of us thought it would never make a come back. Wrong. It's hotter than ever with the best BBQ spot in NYC, a local winery, great bakeshop and an artisan small batch Vermouth maker featured in this episode.

After cementing his reputation working as Chef de Cuisine at Jean George and then a long stint as the Chef at The Modern, Alsatian born Chef Gabriel Kreuther now runs his own eponymous place on 42nd st., right across from Bryant Park. It's the kind of kitchen I love employing loads of cooking technique and precision and utilizing the best ingredients possible.

Separated by just a city block two spots on West 18th Street are todays feature. Chef Jesse Schenker runs The Gander a lovely modern American eatery showcasing his cooking. And Rouge Tomate 2.0 formerly uptown re-opens in an old carriage house in Chelsea with an amazing wine list put together by MS Pascaline Lepeltier, and a kitchen run by Andy Bennett turning out the most delicious healthy food imaginable.

Chef Melissa Muller own the Sicilian restaurant Eolo in Chelsea she's also is writing a great new book on Sicilian food for Rizzoli So when Mike wanted a culinary tour of the Island he's tapped Melissa to be his Sherpa. In this episode and the next they'll visit all nine provinces drink wine on Mount Etna, taste the best fresh made cannoli, see cous cous made by hand, drink raw goats milk then the cheese made from it, and the list goes on.
